Controling Viewers

Opening New Viewers

To open one or more new viewers:

• Click on the "control viewers" icon in the tools window. A dialog window will popup. Select the "New-View" folder:
  
• Select the machine (host) where the viewer(s) is(are) to be launched.
• Set the number of new viewers to open with the slider control.
• Click the "OK" icon to open the viewer(s).

Closing Viewers

To close one or more viewers:

• Click on the "control viewers" icon in the tools window. A dialog window will popup:
  
• Select the viewers to be closed from the list of viewers (a viewer can also be selected/unselected or linked/unlinked from the "link viewer" icon in the viewer toolbar).
• Click the "delete" icon to close the viewer(s).

A single viewer can also be closed by closing the corresponding window.

Linking Viewers

Viewers can be linked or unlinked. When a plot is requested, the results are forwarded to all the linked (or active) viewers. When the user performs an action on a linked viewer, such as a viewing transformation (rotation, translation, zoom, etc.) or the editing of a graphical object, this action is forwarded to all the other linked viewers. In this way the action is executed by all the linked viewers. This feature is used for simultaneous visualization and collaboration (linked viewers running on different machines will share the view-point and the graphical objects).

To link/unlink a viewer:

• Click on the "control viewers" icon in the tools window. A dialog window will popup:
  
• Select the viewer(s) to be linked.
• Unselect the viewer(s) to be unlinked.

A single viewer can also be linked or unlinked from the "link" icon in its toolbar. Also note that the title of the viewer window shows its name (number), the machine where it is running (host) and a "---->" symbol if it is linked or active.
